Legal Battle Over Iowa Immigration Law

The U.S. Department of Justice plans to sue Iowa over a new law that makes it a crime for a person to be in the state if they've previously been denied admission to the U.S. Iowa Governor and Attorney General indicated they are unlikely to agree to the federal terms.

Iowa is moving forward with an anti-illegal immigration bill similar to a Texas law that allows local police to arrest illegal immigrants. The bill has passed the Senate and House and is awaiting Governor Kim Reynolds' signature. Similar bills are also being proposed in other states like New Hampshire, Tennessee, and Oklahoma.
