The murder took place as the candidate was about to take the stage, with at least 36 candidates murdered and over 300 political attacks reported in less than a year.

Forced Recruitment by Drug Cartels in Mexico

A man who was forced to work for the Familia Michoacana Cartel in Mexico for more than two years shared his story of being kidnapped, given a rifle, and forced to work. He claimed that those who asked to leave were killed on-site by cartel leaders. The state of Guerrero has a long history of cartel violence.
