Polish Presidential Elections

Karol Nawrocki, a self-described “pro-Trump” candidate backed by the conservative Law and Justice party, secured 29.1% of the vote in the first round of the Polish presidential elections, closing the gap with his opponent Rafał Trzaskowski. The second round run-off election will be held on June 1st.

Poland's Judicial System Reform

The Polish government led by Prime Minister Donald Tusk aims to restore the country's independent judiciary after the right-wing Law and Justice party made significant changes to the judicial system. The new government faces challenges as it attempts to reverse the previous administration's overhaul of the judiciary, which has been condemned by the European Union. Warsaw Judge Igor Tuleya, who was suspended for speaking out against the government's reforms, has become a symbol of the fight for democracy in Poland.
