Jessie A. Mahaffey, Pearl Harbor Survivor

Jessie A. Mahaffey, one of the last survivors of the sinking of the USS Oklahoma during the 1941 Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, passed away at the age of 102 in Louisiana. He had a remarkable life, serving in the Navy, surviving the attack on the Oklahoma, and later cheating death during the Battle of Tassafaronga in the Solomon Islands.

The remains of Navy Seaman 1st Class Frank Hryniewicz, who was killed during the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, were identified and he was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. His family members were inspired by his sacrifice and joined the U.S. Navy in his honor.
