Origin of Christmas Cookie Tradition and Santa Claus

The tradition of leaving out cookies for Santa Claus during Christmas started in the Netherlands and continued in the United States during the Great Depression as a teachable lesson for children to be thankful and charitable. Santa's favorite cookie is chocolate chip, which pairs well with milk.
