Incidents involving explosive devices on New Year's Day

A Virginia man, Jordan Alexander Sweetman, was arrested with homemade explosives in a stolen vehicle. Authorities found explosive materials resembling homemade explosives in the vehicle and conducted a controlled detonation. Two other incidents involving explosive devices occurred on New Year's Day, including an attack in New Orleans and a suicide involving a combat veteran in front of the Trump International Hotel Las Vegas.

Assassination Attempt on Donald Trump

Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old, shot and killed one person, critically injured two others, and shot at former President Donald Trump during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Explosive devices were found in his car and at his family home. Crooks was shot dead by Secret Service agents and is being treated as an assassination attempt. Trump is doing well and is scheduled to speak at the Republican National Convention.
