UNHCR Global Trends Report on Record High Displacement
UNHCR released its Global Trends Report, showing record high displacement of 123.2 million people due to various reasons. While the rate of increase slowed in 2024, the total number of refugees fell slightly. Hopeful signs include the return of Syrian refugees and the highest level of refugee resettlement in over 40 years. However, forced displacement is rising in countries like Myanmar, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ukraine, and Gaza. Funding cuts pose a threat to addressing forced displacement situations worldwide.
