Gun control legislation in Washington state

Washington state Gov. Bob Ferguson signed legislation mandating a permit requirement for gun purchases, effective May 1, 2027. The law requires a fee and firearms safety training program for the permit. Opponents argue that the state already has universal background checks. The bill passed without Republican support.
