Indian author Banu Mushtaq and translator Deepa Bhasthi win International Booker Prize for fiction

Indian author Banu Mushtaq and translator Deepa Bhasthi won the International Booker Prize for fiction for their collection of 12 short stories chronicling the everyday lives and struggles of women in southern India. The stories were originally written in Kannada and were praised for their socio-political richness and focus on women's lives, reproductive rights, faith, caste, power, and oppression.
