Department of Transportation Layoffs and Air Traffic Control Issues
Employees at the Department of Transportation are facing layoffs as part of the Trump administration's efforts to reduce the federal workforce. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy informed employees that the layoffs, known as reduction in force, are imminent. The final number of cuts will depend on how many employees take a buyout offer. Despite the cuts, Duffy has assured that airline safety will not be compromised. The DOT is also planning to boost air traffic controller recruiting following delays and cancellations at Newark Liberty International Airport.
